I developed this Greener Crossings concept as part of the Tactical Urbanism 101 class taught by Clair Vlach at the Portland Underground Graduate School (PUGS). I was inspired after being hit by a driver who rolled through their stop sign when crossing a Neighborhood Greenway.

This is a simple, low cost intervention that could be implemented very easily. In fact, the City of Portland implemented a similar intervention in 2020 (but with more robust barricades) in their Slow Streets/Safe Streets program.
